A MN Chiropractor Warns: Don’t Risk Ignoring This

Posted by the Editor  Published in Car Accidents, Chiropractic Tips, General, Health Tips

You’d think anyone injured would know it, right?  This MN Chiropractor has seen the results of enough personal injury accidents to know it isn’t always that simple.

It is possible, and even common, for the victim of a low-speed automobile accident to walk away from the crash and feel only “shaken up,” sensing only relief that nothing is broken.  Attention goes immediately to any damage done to property, filing insurance claims and getting on the road again.

Odd that we often check out the condition of our autos more thoroughly than the state of our own bodies.

Bodies are wonderful things.  They work hard to adjust to shocks and shake off trauma.  They may go for days before finally warning, through pain, that the impact suffered has caused an injury with lasting effects, something the body has tried to, but cannot fully handle on its own.

Obviously, no one but the most foolish stoic would ignore severe pain once it shows.  However, it can be just as dangerous to ignore a body that has just suffered an accident, whether pain is present or not.  Potential neck, shoulder and spine problems can arise as a result of delaying rehabilitation that should have been started immediately after an impact.  Even crashing at a speed of 15 miles an hour can put traumatic stress on muscles and ligaments.

You may have heard conflicting advice regarding how much movement is okay for an accident victim.  You may know someone who seemed to do just fine for a few days, and then suddenly was stopped by severe pain.

How do you know, under those circumstances, what you should do?

The obvious answer is to seek advice and help from someone who understands what your body has been through.  A person walking away from an accident is not necessarily in a position to accurately assess his condition.  There is no need to take the chance that an untreated condition will grow into chronic pain.

Your chiropractor understands personal injury, and can teach you what you need to know to make the safest and most responsible decisions about your body.  You can learn what combinations of adjustment, exercise and therapy will aid healing, and help avoid unnecessary complications.

You’d do as much for your automobile.  You’d better do as much for your body.

If you or a loved one has recently been involved in even a minor accident, don’t put off calling us.  We understand personal injury, and we’re here to help.

MN Chiropractor addresses Neck and Spine Strain from Computer and Tablet Use

Posted by the Editor  Published in Chiropractic Tips, General, Health Tips

If you suffer from neck and spine pain, you may have consulted a MN chiropractor.  Or you may even have been tempted to try more drastic measures, like increasing your use of pain medication, or even looking into surgery.

You are wise to ask a doctor about any limiting pain.  There are medical conditions that warn with pain, and need to be diagnosed and treated urgently.

Imagine how relieved you would feel if you discovered the source of your neck and back pain was something as innocent as how you are sitting while you work at your computer all day, or lounging with your touch screen tablet at night.

You are probably reading this right now on a computer or a tablet.  Notice how you are sitting.  Are you hunched at all?  In other words, is gravity pulling you down into your chair or over towards your desk or screen?  Is one arm extended, touching a mouse that you move in the same movements hour after hour, day after day?

Or if you are reading this on a tablet, are you “relaxing” in a favorite position, supporting the device with an unnatural hand position that puts strain on your shoulders and neck?

Now, notice if you are experiencing any stiffness in your neck or spine.  Are you feeling any pain?

When you do get up to exercise or just move around, do you have any stiffness?

Let’s assume you fit into the category of people who are experiencing strain on the back, or pain and stiffness in the neck and shoulders from what we’ve been describing.

Hopefully, you haven’t made things worse by trying inappropriate or incorrectly done exercises that put further strain on muscles and nerves.

A chiropractor is the best person to coordinate an exercise program that will prevent strain and strengthen back and neck muscles.  Additionally, a doctor of chiropractic understands the skeletal and muscular connections that will determine which muscles need relaxing, through adjustment and massage, or strengthening, through correct exercise.

You will also want to review your posture, and get expert advice on the changes you can make in your environment and routine that will help your spine stay properly aligned and stop putting unnecessary demand on muscles.

Not every pain is from something as easily addressed as your relationship with your computer screens.  So don’t take any chances, and don’t suffer needlessly.  Come in and see us and get advice that can change the way you see your world.

A MN Chiropractor Standing for Wellness versus Pain Management

Posted by the Editor  Published in Car Accidents, Chiropractic Tips, General

Along with the DCs, MDs and other healthcare professionals and staff in our office, Dr. Arlen Lieberman is a MN Chiropractor who stands for Wellness.

When you see a chiropractor for a single visit or you embark on a treatment program, there is an important framework from which to project your progress and the overall value of your program.  Some of the important elements of this framework can be illustrated in this way.  Are you going for “pain management”?  Pain maintenance?  Learning to adjust?  Or are you going for a trend of better health and fitness?

For someone in severe pain, possibly having had a personal injury, a physical betterment trend may be too much to consider.  But even a riveted focus on pain can be graduated from, allowing fresh eyes to look toward the goal of optimal health.

More on this, is there a point where the value of a pain medication in certain circumstances crosses a line? A line between a valid if temporary aid in a medical situation, and an ongoing treatment item which is no longer truly helping to improve matters?  Is there a point for a patient with an injury where things will get worse if the “pain management” approach is carried on too long?  Can this be adjudicated by a health professional?

Whatever the state of your health, whatever the condition and age of your body, whatever the injury or stress circumstances, one can start and proactively gain something better, or one can learn to accept and live with it.  If you are working to gain something better, then we are the clinic for you.

With an aggregate of many decades of experience in our staff, we work to better our patients’ health and wellbeing.  So regardless of the state you start in when you enter our office, we look toward your overall health improvement and helping you gain the freedom of being physically fit.  Our many approaches include chiropractic adjustment, trigger point therapy, massage therapy, medical treatment and acupuncture.

Gaining and maintaining  your health is one of those important things in life which can add or subtract years.   But you may not notice the loss or gain until sometime in the future.  For someone proactive about their general betterment, it’s advisable to look ahead (in years) and do the things which maintain that fitness and strengthen it right now – not wait until later.

We are on the side of “ideal wellness” versus “pain suppression” and will gladly discuss and work with you on your own fitness and health goals.  You can always make progress.

Choosing from Among MN Chiropractors and Other Alternative Healthcare Practitioners

Posted by the Editor  Published in Car Accidents, Chiropractic Tips, General, Health Tips

If one were to select a doctor among any MN chiropractors, what would be the criteria for selection?  Trust? Knowledge? Experience?  Education? Insurance company referral?  The doctor is a friend of the family?

There are so many things to consider, it would be good if one had the key to this.  While consulting with a chiropractic office for the answer may be thought as a biased source, take a look and judge for yourself whether we can provide some valuable insight.

First, what is the purpose for being a chiropractic patient?  One who has had a car accident or other physically traumatic stress may have a readily seen reason to go onto a treatment program.  In this same category, an individual with scoliosis, chronic headaches or another condition could have an obvious purpose. On the other hand, pain from some soft tissue injuries has been known to not surface until sometime after the injury.  Thus, it may take a more informed individual to reach out for a treatment program.  Less obvious, someone just needing adjustment would still have a valid and strong reason to engage in a treatment regimen.  In any case, once the reason for treatment is established, one can look for the best doctor and most relevant credentials.

Second, does the doctor take the time and care to understand you and the condition?  This point has communication as its foundation and includes not only the doctor listening, but also the full battery of diagnostics to fully understand what is happening with one’s body.  Start with good, two-way communication and see if the doctor truly understands the condition and goal you have for seeing the chiropractor.

Third could be a realistic program with milestone of progress.  Does the doctor work out a program for you that is doable, with stated objectives to be achieved – and with the desired benefits noted?   This can apply whether one is progressing toward freedom from the pain and consequences of injury, or whether one is simply maintaining a higher state of health.
At our offices, we have treated and worked with patients from newborn and infant, through to almost any age group.  We are known for effective help for sports injuries and car injuries, physical conditions and general maintenance.  We have helped athletes whether amateur or professional, and even Olympians.

As a healthcare center for both traditional and alternative arts, we have a wide range of services and are willing to consult with any individual in their quest to find the ideal chiropractor or other healthcare professional.  Call us, email us, come in and see us.

Why the Best?

Posted by the Editor  Published in Car Accidents, Chiropractic Tips, General, Health Tips

There are many functional reasons one sees a health professional – for example, one may have a sore back for no explained reason.  One may have had an accident recently or long ago.  One may have a health concern which necessitates a professional’s guidance and direction.  One may be simply proactive in getting an annual check up or complete physical examination for health maintenance and early detection of potentially serious issues.  One may simply be interested in increasing bodily comfort and reducing stress.  There can be almost as many reasons as there are individuals who have them.

Beyond the purpose one may have for seeing a health professional, there are the specific requirements and functions the professional fulfills.  And of course, for someone seeking increased good health, restoration of health or stability of health, it is logical that “the best” is what is desired.  An absurd illustration which makes this obvious, might be someone needing a heart transplant but looking for the “best deal” or the lowest price – possibly asking to have a first year intern because it would be “less expensive”.  One angle of the absurdity can be spotlighted by the fact that a life is much more precious than dollars.

Thus, such a person logically seeks the best nutritionist, the best physician, the best chiropractor and massage therapist or whatever field of pro is most appropriate for the circumstance.

Here at Advanced Medial of Twin Cities, we pride ourselves, not only on the diversity of our services, but on the fact that we genuinely care and have built a strong and lasting relationship with our patients and clients.  We feel that the winning combination between patient and healing arts professional is abundant service and a high interchange of information between patient and health care provider.

Our services not only include general medical and physical healing arts, we cover acupuncture, chiropractic and massage therapy and nutrition.  We strive to be a complete health center for our patients.  Even in our injury rehabilitation programs, our focus is always on health achievement and restoration.  We never say, “it can’t be done,” and we work with our patients with all the state-of-the-art healing techniques available to us.

We are dedicated to helping any of our patients at any point on the spectrum of health, from the lowest, such as car accidents or major health issues, to the highest who are the most pro-active in health and fitness and maintaining their physique.  We are willing to speak with anyone on any health related issue and will do our very best for every client or patient.  Give us a call and see.

Autumn Season, Health & Fitness for Bones and Joints

Posted by the Editor  Published in Chiropractic Tips, General, Health Tips

When is the time to plan for a comfortable autumn?  When temperature digits begin their descent toward the cold season, do you or those you love plan for comfort and health?  When you look ahead at the next season, planning more than just sweaters and coats may make the autumn season more enjoyable.

Have you ever heard anyone say their bones, joints or body comfort gets affected by the weather?  Moreover, you may not have to ask very far around to find someone whose relative would give weather predictions by the condition and pain level of their bones and joints.  There are a variety of factors which can bring these types of statements about.  And although it can be interesting and fun, the weather is going to happen and so it is good practice to maximize one’s fitness for new season.

For example, far beyond the obvious feeling of being cold when the weather drops, you may notice that some people get cold quicker and more thoroughly than others – and some even have cold noses, fingers and toes in warm conditions.  Then there are others who seem to stay warm in virtually any weather condition.  Some can feel overheated in hot months and even when temperatures are cool enough for most to put on a sweater.  Regardless of the condition, there are numerous approaches which can greatly influence the health and comfort of one’s body.  Whether circulation problems, tense muscles, nutritional imbalances or other issues, we can help to identify the condition and work closely with you to improve it.  All with the goal of a healthy and comfortable autumn season.  In fact, getting onto a correct medical, chiropractic or nutritional program can carry right on through to healthy and fit winter season as well.

So how about the individual who specifically says their joints are affected by the weather dropping in temperature?  Well, when reduced circulation to a local area in the body occurs and one becomes cold and miserable, the consequences should be addressed as a matter of personal health.  When such a condition is allowed to also reduce the strength and power of the immune system, one has a greater incidence of illness.  Any damage from arthritic or rheumatic conditions can be exacerbated by the temp and humidity changing to the new season.

But, with a consultation at our office, we can determine a course of treatment and nutrition to help make your body healthy and comfortable – all year long!

Chiropractic Care

Posted by the Editor  Published in Chiropractic Tips, Health Tips

Chiropractic treatment is designed not only to alleviate back pain, but to help relieve the many troubles caused by spinal subluxations.

A spinal subluxation is defined as a partial dislocation or a slight misalignment of the vertebrae. Where this occurs, the nerve channels can become blocked, causing a lack of nerve flow to whichever area of the body that nerve sends signals to under normal circumstances. Without those nerve impulses reaching their proper destination, that area of the body cannot function properly. If one were to take a perfectly functioning water hose and stand on it, the water would be inhibited in its travels or would stop altogether. The person on the other end of that hose attempting to wash his car with this now-impaired hose will likely become upset and the car will remain unclean. This is the same with an otherwise perfectly functioning arm. Block the electrical flow of nerves to the elbow and the doctor labels it “tennis elbow.”

Many of the aches and pains the average human being experiences are a result of decreased nerve flow to the various organs, joints and tissues in the body. Chiropractic has as its goal correcting the misalignment and thereby releasing the nerve channels of their blockage (subluxations) which in turn restores the nerve flow and thus function of those areas.

What are some of the ailments Chiropractic can help alleviate? The answer to that is too many to detail, but some of them are listed below:

  • Back pain
  • Neck pain
  • Headaches
  • Ear infections
  • Menstrual Cramps
  • Common Cold Symptoms
  • Sinus Pressure
  • Sports Injuries
  • Carpal Tunnel
  • Tennis Elbow
  • Infant Care
  • Preventative Care

And many more! Our Chiropractic staff has been helping to relieve the pain and discomfort of subluxations for patients in the Minneapolis and Saint Paul area for many years. Let their experience and expertise get you on the road to recovery and good health today!

What Can A Massage Do For Me?

Posted by the Editor  Published in Chiropractic Tips, Health Tips

About 90% of all visits to Chiropractors in Minneapolis and St Paul are for stress related complaints such as headaches, backaches, neck pain, eyestrain, poor concentration, anxiety, depression, irritability, anger, high blood pressure, heart disease, physical and emotional exhaustion.

Reducing the effects of stress

When you receive a massage your body’s parasympathetic nervous system is activated and this counteracts your body’s negative response to stress, relaxing the muscle tension and allowing your heart rate, blood pressure and circulation to return to normal.

Relaxing tense muscles

Muscles can become tight and ineffective for many reasons: stress, injury, poor circulation, overuse and misuse, can all cause you pain and discomfort as well as restrict your normal range of motion. When left unattended, these conditions become habitual and hamper the quality of your everyday life.

Massage therapy stretches and loosens tight muscles and connective tissue, breaks down and prevents formation of adhesions, frees your range of motion and reduces the dangers of fibrosis.

Decreasing chronic pain

A tight muscle cannot hold much fluid nor can it allow much fluid to pass through it. This decreases your circulation of blood and increases the strain placed on your heart.

Massage therapy releases contracted muscles and pushes venous blood towards the heart thus easing the strain on this vital organ. This increase in circulation brings energy producing nutrients and oxygen to your cells as well as carries away metabolic waste products that can make you feel listless and drained.

Help with sleep problems

Tension from everyday stress can disrupt your sleep leaving you tired, irritable and emotionally drained. This can rob you of the patience and stamina needed to face day to day life.

Massage therapy relaxes tense muscles and calms the nervous system, causing your body’s rhythm to slow down. When this happens your blood pressure lowers, your heart rate settles and your breath becomes deeper and more rhythmic, priming you for a perfect night’s sleep.

So what can a massage do for you?  The answer is: plenty! We offer different types of massage therapy for different problems and with skill and expertise we can help rid you of unwanted stress and duress on your body and put a spring back in your step!  We service the greater Minneapolis/St Paul area and welcome all.

Back Pain at the Work Place

Posted by The Doctor  Published in Chiropractic Tips, Health Tips

Chiropractor Minneapolis Advice, backpain and workThe number one place where people get back pain as well as neckpain is the work place.

Some of the common causes of back pain are: wrong posture, lifting heavy objects, uncomfortable chairs, too high or too low desks as well as many others. Even the use of a keyboard and a mouse in the wrong position when repeated over and over can result in back injury and therefore back pain.

We wanted to give you some simple tips to help you when you experience back pain at work:

  1. Try to maintain your regular activity level whenever possible.
  2. Review your working environment to see what is bringing about the problem and if it can be easily remedied; if so fix it.
  3. Come to see a chiropractor, taking painkillers can relieve back pain for a while but doesn’t find and resolve the actual cause. With back pain the wrong thing to do is ignore it.

We are here to help you, if needed we can assist you in using your work insurance, if you are anywhere in the Minneapolis area we can help you.

Chiropractor’s tip of the week – Loading and unloading vehicles

Driving for a long time usually stiffens the back; if that is immediately followed by lifting heavy objects it can result in injury.

Always stretch before loading or unloading a vehicle, especially if you have just been driving for a while.
